Balanced and Relevant
Our school is committed to providing a broad, balanced and relevant curriculum.
We are a research school for the National Literacy Strategy and have adopted the Numeracy Strategy.
Pupils in Reception, Years 1 and 2 will follow a three year topic cycle. Each topic is carefully devised and selected in order to access all areas of the National Curriculum. Support is also available from speech, physio and occupational therapists.
Pupils in Years 3, 4, 5 and 6 will follow a four year topic cycle, again planning and implementation will take in all areas of the National Curriculum with support on individual programmes being offered by speech, physio and occupational therapists.
Pupils at Key Stage Three follow a subject based timetable where teachers have developed special isms in all the National Curriculum areas.
At Key Stage Four our pupils are also following a subject based curriculum which will lead them to a range of nationally accredited qualifications, e.g. GCSE Art and Drama, Entry Level qualifications in Basic Literacy, I.C.T., Science, Technology and Numeracy.
For pupils with Autism & complex learning needs, we offer a skills based approach with provision of Speech & Language Therapy at its core. Learning takes place through real life & community based lessons and 1 to 1 personalised learning opportunities in class. We also incorporate "Positive Learning for Life Using Supportive Strategies" in order to help children develop the skills needed to replace restrictive behavious.
